Shawna Esarey Memorial Scholarship

Our colleague Shawna Esarey was a dedicated nurse, beloved mother and wife, and for many years, a devoted board member of SCAPHON.  During the early days of her nursing career, she travelled the country as a Club Med nurse, which began her lifelong love of sunny Club Med vacations. She worked at multiple Southern California Hospitals including CHOC, Kaiser and RCHSD. She loved pediatric oncology.  Shawna spent time working as a Pediatric Oncology Research nurse and was an integral part of the long term survival Thriving After Cancer program at RCHSD.  She spent many years on the SCAPHON board in various positions such as Scholarship Chair and Quarterly planner. We were saddened to hear of Shawna’s passing in  August 2021. She will certainly remain in our hearts as we remember her dedication to SCAPHON and pediatric hematology/oncology nursing, and we will honor her by offering a scholarship for a Nursing Student to attend our annual conference. Shawna would love the early engagement of future pediatric hematology/oncology nurses. Must be a Full Time, Undergraduate Nursing student with an interest in Pediatric Hematology Oncology to apply. To apply, submit a one paragraph document explaining your interest in attending the SCAPHON conference. The winner will receive full tuition to the 2-day conference and a one night stay at the conference venue.
