Community Service Project

SCAPHON is excited to be embarking on our fourth year of community service work.  We have been very successful with our past projects.  This year SCAPHON has chosen Operation Safe House as our community service project.  Operation Safe House was created to provide a “sense of relief, of hope, for teens at risk in Riverside".  Operation Safe House takes in teens who are facing domestic violence, drug addiction, unplanned pregnancies, gender identity issues, suicide and life on the streets.

Operation Safe House has also partnered with the Riverside Transit Agency to provide 114 mobile Safe Place sites and has designated all fixed route buses as mobile “Safe Place” sites.  Currently, they are operating 225 sites in Riverside County.    Safe Place  is an outreach program dedicated to educating young people every year about the dangers of running away or trying to solve difficult, threatening problems on their own.  Other services offered by Operation Safe House include substance abuse counseling, an independent living program and family counseling.

SCAPHON will be collecting the following items for our donation to Operation Safe House:   board games and karaoke CD’s, movie tickets, sports items (basketballs, frisbees and jump ropes), gift cards (target, Wal-Mart, grocery stores and fast food coupons), and some personal hygiene items (hair brushes, combs, toothpaste and toothbrushes).  We will begin collecting at our December Quarterly and continue until our May conference in Palm Springs.  You may give your donations to your hospitals SCAPHON board member if you are unable to attend any of the events and would like to donate to our community service project.  Thank you!!
