Amy Nishimura Memorial Childhod Cancer Survivor
Amy Nishimura joined Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital as a pediatric nurse in 1982 and went on to become an integral part of their growing pediatric team and programs. She was a wife, mother of 3, a beloved friend and mentor with a heart and passion for a lifetime of caring for children. Friends describe her as gentle and compassionate, always with a kind word to offer and a smile on her face, regardless of the challenges she faced in her own life. Amy just had "a way" about her that could put families and children at ease during difficult times. She was extremely creative and hardworking and will be deeply missed by all who knew and lover her. Amy passed away on March 14, 2009 after her own courageous battle with brain cancer, her strong commitment to God guiding her with grace and dignity.
In memoriam of Amy Nishimura, SCAPHON, together with Amy's nursing colleagues, friends and family members, offers a $1,000 scholarship to a Childhood Cancer Survivor for tuition, fees, books, etc.
